More about the artist:

Helena Alegre sculptural jewelry challenges traditional concepts of wearable art. Her jewelry is a modern and innovative quality that expenses her unique and venturous spirit. Her designs are organic, sculptural and colourful in nature yet minimal and polished. Her creations are bold and distinctive pieces of adornment, which position the human body as a site of display.

Although each piece represents a form inspired by Philippine heritage and Filipiniana designs, her work is less concerned inducing the wearer as part of the creation.  The line between a pure and one that is inseparably bound to self-conscious presentation of beauty or aesthetic or even fine art, becomes indistinct for both the wearer and the viewer.

“I love seeing how something I drew could be made into something three dimensional, something wearable and beautiful,” she shares.

She is enamored by semi-precious stones and their metaphysical attributes. This prompted Helena to work with more challenging elements: fire and silver.  Helena is inspired by her sensibility and appreciation of raw, earthlier-looking stones like turquoise, lapis lazuli, agate, ocean jasper, crazy horse, moonstone and her favorite, black tourmaline to sculpt her fine art pieces. Each creation is a treat for those who are seeking to acquire a handmade touch to their collection or gift to love one.

“I’m a panday-that’s what you call a silversmith in Bicol. Or they say “Platero in Bulacan,” she shares.
