In all these cosmic voyages, there appear certain references to landmarks and architectural structures, such as imposing city gates or church spires, along with symbolic elements. They are viewed as though from a distance or from the eagle’s eye view of the world. ~Alice Guillermo

Multifaceted award winning artist Pancho Piano creates art in variety of styles: stained glass art, abstraction and mural painting. Pancho creates energy and movement successfully interweaving modern and traditional styles. A faithful son of “Kabikulan,” he has paid homage, in his numerous paintings in oil and acrylic, to the myths, legends and traditions of Bicol, its indigenous deities such as “Haliya,” the moon goddess of abundance and fertility with her multiple breast, and “Daragang Magayon” in the folktale of ill-starred lovers, as well as mythologies of Albay province and gives special homage to the Bicolano devotion to the Lady Peñafrancia. Aside from his liturgical art, Pancho M. Piano is also a poet of Bicol Southern Tagalog Region.

Pancho M. Piano completed Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at the University of Nueva Caceres (1978) who also took a degree in Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines Diliman as a Jose Joya Scholar (1984-1987).

Pancho is the first Filipino artist to showcase Leather Art in the Philippines. He has conducted 30+ solo exhibitions, over 50+ group exhibitions, and participated in international exhibitions in Japan, Saipan, and the United States of America, France, Austria, the Federal Republic of Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland.

He has traveled extensively to the United States and Europe voyages opening for him new perspectives of space and the universe.

Pancho has won over numerous major national competitions in the Philippines, including Finalist at the 1997 “AFP Centennial Mural Painting Competition,” and the 1998 “AAP Centennial Painting Competition.” Pancho was awarded “Artist of the Year Awards” for the total of twelve times by various Bicol institutions. Beauty in the eyes of the artist…

I define beauty as rather a measure of affect. It is a measure of emotion. In art, beauty is the device of successful communication between participants. The transmission of a concept between the artist and the perceives; beautiful art is successful in portraying the artist’s most profound intended emotions. But neither the artist nor the observer can be certain of successful communication in the end. So beauty in art is eternally subjective. What might be beautiful to me, might not be to other. As the saying goes, the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

ABOUT JASON V. MACUHA

Jason V. Macuha of Macuha Art Gallery

His abstract expressionist Prosperity Rings has been the centerpiece of the family’s living room, and they believe it to have brought them prosperity. Source: The art of brain balancing by Edgar Cruz

His love of collecting Filipino visual arts was ignited when he briefly lived with Cuizon (aka Ninong Ver), the uncle and godfather of wife Stefanie Yvette Cuizon Macuha while he was working on a project in Batangas City in 2000 for a gas plant project. Ninong Ver was also a wedding sponsor in his wedding and an art promoter of Kunst Pilipino Gallery owner.

His quest as an art collector began in 2013 when he first acquired his first artwork through the Cuizon’s generosity, the acrylic on canvas “Composition XXXIV by Rene Robles.” His art collection has since accumulated to around 200 pieces. Ninong Ver also introduced him to Filipino Master Artist “Ernesto “Aris” Bagtas Jr. The genius of his generation, a native of Obando, Bulacan has been one of the most influential artists of these times. Bill Perez, who is also a member of Batangas City Cultural Affairs Committee, enhanced his knowledge about Filipino artists, their art background, and what the future holds in visual arts including putting up his own art gallery. Thus, Macuha Art Gallery was born.

Macuha’s aim is to support and promote Filipino national and regional visual arts. He currently maintains an online art gallery, www.macuha-artgallery.com that features his art collection. Jason Macuha plans to conduct art classes in the future.

Macuha Art Gallery is available for private viewing only. Art aficionados will need to book to visit the gallery. For appointments, please contact Macuha Art Gallery thru landline +632 – 802 3064, mobile +63 917 897 5698; or his email: jason@macuha-artgallery.com, Facebook and Twitter.
