In all these cosmic voyages, there appear certain references to landmarks and architectural structures, such as imposing city gates or church spires, along with symbolic elements. They are viewed as though from a distance or from the eagle’s eye view of the world. ~Alice Guillermo

Multifaceted award winning artist Pancho Piano creates art in variety of styles: stained glass art, abstraction and mural painting. Pancho creates energy and movement successfully interweaving modern and traditional styles. A faithful son of “Kabikulan,” he has paid homage, in his numerous paintings in oil and acrylic, to the myths, legends and traditions of Bicol, its indigenous deities such as “Haliya,” the moon goddess of abundance and fertility with her multiple breast, and “Daragang Magayon” in the folktale of ill-starred lovers, as well as mythologies of Albay province and gives special homage to the Bicolano devotion to the Lady Peñafrancia. Aside from his liturgical art, Pancho M. Piano is also a poet of Bicol Southern Tagalog Region.

Pancho M. Piano completed Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at the University of Nueva Caceres (1978) who also took a degree in Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines Diliman as a Jose Joya Scholar (1984-1987).

EDWIN “Buboy” DINAPO – Award Winning Filipino Painter and Visual Artist

Award winning, internally driven, and emotionally charged, Edwin “Buboy” Dinapo’s original art executed mostly in abstract, human forms, landscape, portraits and still life—have been described as “evoking a feeling of peacefulness and serenity.” Buboy’s works mostly with acrylics but he does dabble in mixed media. When viewing Buboy’s portfolio for the first time, one is under the belief that the works presented are the creations of a master artist. The diverse collections however are the efforts of just one.

Some of his portraits entitled “Mother and Child,”  “Devotion” and “Caroling” are famous these days which is why he became the endorser of the Hallmark Cards in which part of the profit goes towards the care for the kids fighting leukemia.

Buboy Dinapo is a self-taught, abstract painter who hails from Davao City, Philippines.  Moved by his great desire to provide a better future for his family, Buboy decided to move to Manila in 1987. Buboy’s passion for art was so great that even after office work; he found time to play with his brushes and color palettes on a blank canvas and continued the pursuit of his first love—painting. While Buboy has been creating art throughout his life it was not until 2004, after a solid thirteen years of office work; Buboy decided to leave his job and pursue his dream of becoming a professional artist on a full-time basis. He is also a freelance TV & movie actor and you can watch all his videos via YouTube.

In a fairly short period of time, Buboy accomplished unheard of achievements for a self-taught & self-representing artist. Though he did not have any formal training in the Fine Arts, through the years, Buboy learned to love the beauty of nature and mastered his craft by capturing the essence of his own style in every brush stroke. He joined several “on-the-spot” sessions to develop his God given talent as well as provide awareness to everyone who views his art pieces.

In 2006, Buboy garnered the attention of the astute and art critics who dubbed him as the “Prodigy of the Year” and also received the prestigious “Filipino Pride” (Dangal Pinoy) award for the Culture and Arts of Buhay Pinoy category from the Philippine Television Network RPN9 on the 3rd of July 2006. He was also a grand prize winner for “On the Spot Competition” with the theme “Taal Volcano 2004″ by LUNDA Art Group and a second runner-up for the same competition with another theme “Watermelon 2004.”

In recognition of Filipino world-class excellence in 2015, Dangal Nang Bayan awarded Edwin “Buboy” Dinapo “Outstanding Visual Artist”and Asian Achiever Award “Outstanding Artist/Actor for Arts and Culture.”

Some of his original paintings have already been displayed in other countries like the U.S., Canada, South America, Europe, Middle East and Asia. Buboy also now enjoys the patronage of his collectors such as Manny Pacquiao, Senator Edgardo Angara, Senator Bong Revilla, Senator Chiz Escudero and former Mayor Sonny Belmonte to name a few.

Dr. Elden Lumaniog: The Colors of His Life

Every artist painting style, color palette, intensity of strokes and expression echoes their inner consensus, cultural way of thinking and individuality of expression. Color has a subtle effect on us even though we may not be aware of it. Every day we are faced with our emotions, moods, mental insights and even physical perceptions are of course shaped by the colors that surround us. As all artists, they use color very deliberately to make you feel a certain way—to stimulate your mood or to create a message or give a sharp response in the viewer.  The colors we surround ourselves with directly influence the way we feel and relax.

Dr. Elden Lumaniog specializes not only in the art of medicine, but also has a firm hand in the arena of real artistic talents. In Dr. Lumaniog’s artistic expression, it is intrinsically a process of sharing emotions to enchant the viewer. His art advocates discovery, study, documentation & preservation of our rich cultural heritage as presented in his “Tribal Women art series.”

As for the “Tres Maria’s metaphoric series connotes about the human figure at play putting the anatomical knowledge of the artist’s own scaffolding & understanding of dimensional forms using primary colors. His silent desire is to put all these inspirations in canvas proudly depicting womanhood as an exponent of power, beauty and grace.

Apart from a specialty of Infectious Diseases including Men’s Health in Genito-Urinary Medicine, Dr. Lumaniog is also active in the visual arts scene.  He has participated in art group exhibitions and also received arts training and memberships at Philippines Women University, School of Fine Arts, Bankok Arts and Cultural Center and Malaysian Contemporary Art Show.

“E X U V I A E”

Beyond the waves and the wind,
full moon rising in tranquil
gentleness of heavens brood oe’r the sea.

Ronna Lara-Bes, The Multi-Faceted Artist

The artist would describe herself as multi-faceted, for she has developed skills of seemingly different disciplines. However, one mutual denominator among them is that they all resolve around artistic pursuits. Her art endeavors have dominated her life for as long as she can remember.

Ronna Lara-Bes is an alumnus of Architecture in University of Santo Tomas, a course that helped combined the technical and the creative side of her artistry. Her professional life is dedicated to creativity and the teaching of it. She is a part-time instructor at Feati University School of Fine Arts. Her early years, she saw herself as a fashion designer, then as an architectural visualizer, product designer, 3D Animator, photographer and visual effects artist—An all-around artist!

In the field of traditional art, her choice mediums are oil, acrylics and watercolour. She switches from one to another to keep her perspective constantly fresh, yet continually retaining her unique artistic identity. This is yet another manifestation of her multifaceted nature. Her work is often been described as possessing cleanliness and shades have and having that three-dimensional effect which oftentimes amuses her given her computer graphics background.

Meet Millet Galeos Sacerdoti – An Eclectic Visual Artist

A Virgo from the year of the Earth Rooster, Ramilita “Millet” Fajardo Galeos, who hails from Pasay City, grew up in the busy streets of Paco, Manila. Millet came from a family of doctors, nurses, artists, musicians, accountants and engineers. She was inspired by the tenacity of her late uncle, Zosimo Fajardo Sr. a prolific deaf-mute painter who trained under Fernando Amorsolo. Her first cousin, “Queen of Radio Advertising” Ompong Remigio, elevated to the Hall of Fame of the Philippines Creative Guild, is another inspiration.

Interesting artist! I feel that she is someone you should know.  She is one prolific artist who is active in Manila’s art scene. Shout out to my high school buddy Wam Molina who introduced me to her.  Thank you Wam! (Watch out for a future blog post on Wam’s photography)

Hope you enjoy this post and her art the same way as I did!

Millet Galeos Sacerdoti and her art.

Tell me about yourself as a Freelance Visual Artist and your type of art.

As a self-taught visual artist for more than 25 years; I must say, I haven’t encountered any design task that was too hard to execute, at the same time be able to freely express my style (a feat for most graphic designers and increasingly hard to put into practice due to different client needs and demands).

Not claiming that I’m special or freakishly good at what I do, but I believe that my creativity stems from the way I see things, I was born with epilepsy and bipolar disorder and was left undiagnosed until I was 30. My art possibly falls under so many categories except traditional.

Taken from my art profile – Her love for basic shapes and bright colors, keen eye for detail and future trends, good sense of balance and form and her preciseness of pen and pencil drove her beyond typical expressions, and forms. Her design-sense is contemporary, mostly abstract depictions of life; intricate, comic, pop and psychedelic. Her subjects normally involve love of family and children, biological and natural patterns, hidden messages and puzzles, sex, epilepsy and extreme moods. Her works are done meticulously and intricately, but all in a whim, with no defined plans or studies. Her play of shapes, textures and colors usually deceive the viewer’s eyes. She lets the viewer define and interpret her work the way they want to see it. Millet’s favorite medium is ink. She also uses acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil, graphite, charcoal, oil pastel, markers, crayons and mixed media. She is adept in both conventional and digital media.

Apoplexie Mental Vulgarity by Artist Millet Galeos Sacerdoti

And as an Owner at Apoplexie Art Bar

Apoplexie is French for seizure. Art Bar doesn’t relate exactly to an edifice like a bar or restaurant but more to a shop (in this case, and as of the moment, a virtual shop). I did put up a physical shop in Kapitolyo, Pasig for a multiply.com account; sadly, it didn’t pull through since they closed down. It’s the future of Apoplexie that I am currently planning on. We target to bring Apoplexie back focusing on the arts and music scene, after we build the studio in Tagaytay…the place to build already exists, and my remaining Apoplexie stocks are kept in the bodega. These stocks include mostly of my artworks, preloved clothing and handcrafted fashion accessories, other artists’ paintings, and art collectibles. We’re on planning stage and will start setting up a temporary showroom first and bit by bit build from there. Hoping to open by end 2015 if permitting won’t be cumbersome.

You mentioned you’re SOELAG. What is this?

Soelag is the reverse of my surname Galeos. I use this as my pseudonym for certain art activities that involve live and interactive art, moving art or videography. It’s not my alter ego, it just so happens that when I signed my name before, it reads both as Galeos and Soelag, almost like an ambigram.

Besides you, who are the other featured Apoplexie Art Bar artist?

One of Apoplexie Art Bar’s concepts will be, aside from artists being able to show their works, to accommodate and feature select artists as its resident/stay-in artist for two weeks each month, without repeating the same artist, giving more exposure to new and upcoming artists. That’s all I can say for now since everything is in conceptual stage.

What type of art do you feature at Apoplexie Art Bar?

Any and all types of art (there’s art in trash, but there is also “trash art”- which I am not keen on promoting)

You mentioned your price is cheap?  What are your price ranges?

That price would apply on the fashion part of Apoplexie.

Artworks wise, I believe I’m relatively cheap (not being humble about it nor too happy to say it). Currently, my cheapest artwork would be P500.00 and the most expensive is P120K (which can also mean I don’t plan to sell it, at the moment, or they jacked up my price – hehe). I would like to work on a price per sq. in. list, but when you’re enjoying what you do, it’s really hard to put a price on it. As of now, I keep it low so that more people will have access to my art.

Give me an update on your Art Events?

I’ve been very active lately as Director and founding member of the United Women Artists Association of the Philippines (UWAAP) which is geared towards promoting the female artists, to pursue impeccable craftsmanship, and serve as inspiration to other women artists, both locally and internationally. (Motto eh, I have to write that down, YKWIM) Our organization was founded just this year and only yet has been actively participating ever since its launch and first group exhibit last October in Dos Pueblos Gallery entitled “DiskARTe“.

UWAAP Teaser: DOS PUEBLOS GALLERY Presents…”DISKARTE” The first group exhibition of the UNITED WOMEN ARTISTS ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES. Robinsons Magnolia, New Manila, Quezon City

Ongoing exhibits: UWAAP co-organized and I partly sponsored (via Apoplexie Art Bar, GS Tagaytay and SNAFU!) the NBI’s 78th Anniversary Art and Photo Exhibit Opening last 3 November. Exhibit runs until 5 December.

Also, we are participating at the 1st SBMA Women’s Summit entitled “Ang Bagong Pinay” in Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center. We will also hold interactive or live art, on the spot sketching and art demonstration activities this 26-27 November.

Future of your art?

I am at present involving myself more into arts and music-infused fund-raising projects and benefit shows, either as co-organizer or sponsor/patron.  Next year’s activities are already lined-up. Though, I may have to take a backseat midway 2015 to pursue building my own artist haven in Tagaytay.

This is a second post for Kevin’s art work. – The Black and White Ink Series. (See KEVIN A SABINO’S OUTBURSTS here)

His art is heavily inspired by the color of his childhood days in Aklan Province, Western Visayas. His interest is all types of music, different cultures, and other artists; his work is mainly in ink, acrylics, and oils but would dabble in mixed media to create surreal worlds, where the only limit is his imagination. He can do murals too!
