I call Paola Santiago Clarito an accidental artist. She was a housewife who runs a household and takes care of her daughter.  When she is free, she would sketch and paint.  And share her works to friends and family in her social media accounts. Unbeknownst to her, this would lead to a career of adult art coloring books.

It was a serendipitous discovery when her friend tagged her on Facebook which led her to a page on adult coloring books. This was when she got her ‘aha’ moment because this gave her direction she needed for her art. Paola released her 1st adult coloring book, Nostos, last August 2016 and Nostos 2: An Out of This World Coloring Adventure last March 2016.

There are very few artists in the Philippines dabbling into the coloring book world so this was an instant hit to Paula who got even featured in a segment TV5 show Happy Wife, Happy Life and a live guesting on CNN Philippines. It also landed her a feature in the Expat Magazine and now Filipino Artist Magazine.

“You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold. That is how important you are!” ~ Eckhart Tolle

Paula worked in the hospital as a licensed Physical Therapist before she found her true calling as an artist. Paula who has found her calling not in the confines of a hospital has a fire inside their soul that protracted that feeling she was meant to be doing something else in life. That stirred her imagination to unchain the limits of her fantasies and creativity.

Paula is a self-taught artist, often turning to YouTube to watch instructional videos and practicing the things she learned during her spare time.  She usually paints using traditional mediums like acrylic and oil. She then verged into making artwork with pencil, ink, colored pencils, etc. The usual subject Paola draws are women and animals. Her works are usually whimsical, geometrical, and some mehndi–the designs you see on Indian wedding henna tattoos.

She eventually has sold paintings, personalized shirts, 3D butterfly clocks and has also done commissioned artworks. But the artist has been recognized with her line art and in adult coloring. She recently signed a contract to be a guest artist in the online coloring pages service “Blue Star Inspire” where her designs will be made available to subscribers.
